Our aim with subito is not to replace checkout staff. Migros constantly reviews trends, developments and potential improvements in the purchasing process. With the subito services, we offer our customers the opportunity to scan and pack their shopping themselves and then pay conveniently, independently and without cash.
Subito services at Migros have been well received by customers for ten years now. The introduction of the self-service stations has incidentally not resulted in a staff reduction. On the contrary, the Migros Group employs 16,000 more people than it did ten years ago. As is the case in most sectors, every job description changes over the course of a career and adapts to the changing needs of its clientele. The checkout staff also look after the subito services in addition to the conventional cash registers.
Our colleagues are all "retail specialists" – there is no training or qualifications for checkout staff. They also have other tasks and responsibilities, such as providing advice or working in customer service, in sales or in goods management (e.g. in the warehouse).
