M-Check is not a label, but is instead used to provide greater clarity to customers in the form of additional sustainability ratings on the reverse side of the product packaging to help them make the decision on whether to buy the product. Existing label certifications shall continue to be used. M-Check is a sustainability scale that rates all own-brand products and labels in a simplified manner for customers and offers more in terms of complete transparency with respect to non-certified products. Ratings are provided by independent third-party partners, such as the life cycle assessment company research and consulting company intep for climate-related ratings, and the School of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences (HAFL) for animal welfare ratings.
